14 December 2018 - 25 January 2019

Deadline for request for clarification: 15th January

An assessment of abortion seeking behaviours and preferences in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, and a toolkit for global application of the study protocol

Marie Stopes South Africa (MSSA) is a part of the Marie Stopes International (MSI) global organization which provides high quality safe abortion care, contraception and mother and baby care to women and girls in 37 countries. Established in 1993, MSSA has 12 centres and five health care units (HCUs) across seven provinces (Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Free State, Kwa-Zulu Natal, North West and Northern Cape).

MSSA is searching for research agencies interested in working with us in undertaking an assessment of abortion seeking behaviours in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

The research may include the following components, but suggestions for other methodologies to answer the objectives are welcomed:

  • Qualitative data collection through semi-structured interviews with a sample of women and men living in rural communities that are not typically in MSSA’s existing client flow. It is expected that a sampling strategy such as snowballing will be needed.
  • A discrete choice experiment (DCE) informed by findings from the qualitative study with a similar sample of participants.

Proposal evaluation will be based on

  • Quality of project proposal
  • Budget justification
  • Track record of applicant
