What we do in Papua New Guinea
Our local nurses and midwives deliver vital sexual and reproductive healthcare services. We have centres in Port Moresby, Mount Hagen, Lae, Goroka and Madang, as well as conducting extensive outreach.
How we deliver services
We provide services to the most in need in Papua New Guinea.
In 2011, 60% of our total services provided were through mobile outreach. Fully equipped clinical teams are able to serve villages in 10 provinces across a geographically and culturally diverse population area.
Extreme poverty is widespread, with 87 % of the population living in rural areas with little or no access to or awareness of family planning. We provide highly subsidised services and our extensive outreach cuts down on transport costs for our clients.
40% of the population is under the age of 24. Lack of knowledge and available youth-friendly services exacerbates sexual and reproductive health risks for young people. The Yangpela (young person) Hotline and Well Youth Checks provide confidential, youth-specific services, in a safe and nonjudgemental environment.
