What we do in Nigeria
Improving access to services and providing reliable information to women about their family planning options is at the heart of MSI Nigeria’s mission.
After opening its first clinic in July 2009 in Abuja, our programme became one of the only providers in Nigeria who offer access to high quality long-acting and permanent family planning services.
We have a strong relationship with the federal, state and local governments of Nigeria. And with this partnership, plan to extend our work from nine to 36 states.
How we deliver services
Expanding the scope and capacity of our service channels is vital for our programme to have a significant impact on the uptake of sexual and reproductive health services.
Our centre offers a range of reproductive health services, including a wide range family planning services, emergency contraception, pre and post natal care, diagnosis and treatment of STIs, pregnancy testing, voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) for HIV, ultrasound and laboratory services.
Travelling to hard to reach areas of Nigeria, our clinical outreach teams (including nurses, drivers, assistants and doctors) provide access to a range of contraceptive services to those who need them most, at regular intervals.
We have social franchisees that are already operational in Enugu and Anambra States, South East, Nigeria. Social franchising is one of the innovative ways in which which we are connecting the under-served clients with the family planning and reproductive health services they want and need.
We have teamed up with government and existing private healthcare providers in order to increase access to high quality care for the under-served communities in Nigeria. In the first year of the project, 22 franchisees have been trained with a view to increasing this number to 50.
