The Vice President of the Republic of Malawi and Minister of Health, the Right Honourable Khumbo Kachali, has met with leaders from Banja la Mtsogolo (BLM), Malawi’s leading provider of sexual and reproductive health, and its founding organisation Marie Stopes International (MSI).

The Vice President said:

I would like to thank, MSI, BLM and its leadership for the tremendous contribution they make to the lives of the people of Malawi every day. The women and men of Malawi can rest assured that they can continue to access sexual and reproductive health services from a quality organisation that they can trust.

BLM has been working in collaboration with the Ministry for over two decades and complements the efforts of the Ministry of Health in reducing maternal morbidity and mortality through provision of family planning services, including long acting and permanent methods, and management of sexually transmitted infections.

BLM has 450 outreach sites across Malawi covering both Ministry of Health as well as Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) catchment areas. It also has BlueStar Clinics where the private sector is empowered to provide family planning services especially to the rural and peri-urban areas.

Linda Edwards, BLM Country Director said:

The team at BLM are incredibly proud of our working relationship with the Government of Malawi. I know that as we continue to work together, we can make a real difference in the lives of the women and men.
