At Marie Stopes International we are committed to improving the quality and quantity of our research, based on principles of medical and research ethics, in order both to improve services and share findings with the broader medical, scientific and NGO communities. The Ethics Review Committee (ERC) independently reviews our research proposals, promoting implementation of ethically sound research across the organisation.
The ERC was established according to the principles specified in the WHO Operational Guidelines for Ethics Committees (2000).
This means that all our studies comply with Ethical standards as laid out by the Office of Human Research Protections, US.
Our ERC is a registered Independent Review Board (IRB) and is governed by the following:
- Helsinki Declaration
- Belmont Report
- Council for Innal ternatioOrganizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS).
We have our own Federal-Wide Assurance, issued by the Office of Human Research Protection, at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This assures that all research reviewed by the ERC in all partner programmes and subsidiaries will be guided by the principles outlined in the Helsinki Declaration and the Belmont Report.
