USA Support Office

Our USA Support Office leads the development of US-based partnerships to leverage technical and financial resources in support of Marie Stopes International’s global mission – children by choice not chance. Our USA Support Office currently administers two USAID family planning contracts to provide contraception to women in developing countries.

MSI-US is a supporting organisation and does not deliver family planning or reproductive health services in the US.

Marie Stopes International (MSI) is an organization that is constantly expanding our services to reach the 215 million couples around the world that have an unmet need for family planning. We are committed to measuring the impact of our services and using that information to keep improving the quality and scope of what we do. When the current US Administration took office, MSI made a strategic decision to embrace the change in policy environment and increase our partnership with the US Government. We have seen a number of our country programs expand their reach to the most vulnerable and underserved through USAID SUPPORT. Although these resources represent a small percent of our overall funding, they provide a critical opportunity to expand the reach and scope of our services and have served to compliment and leverage with our other generous donor support. We have increased our partnership with many US based organizations, our programming with USAID and our presence in the US through our new DC office. Objectives

Key objectives for MSI-US include:

1. providing technical and programme resources for partners based on Marie Stopes International’s mission, and expertise as a leading global health service provider
2. representing Marie Stopes International to: Congress, US-based multilateral agencies such as the United Nations and World Bank; foundations and donors; academic institutions: the private sector and non-profit organizations working to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights globally
3. managing US-based grants to ensure optimal performance in coordination with our headquarters in London and our country programmes.

Highlights

MSI-US is a partner of the US government under the Strengthening Health Outcomes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) Project, a five-year USAID global project led by Abt Associates. SHOPS aims to increase the role of the private sector in the sustainable provision and use of family planning/reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and other health information, products, and services. SHOPS’s objectives include:

1. strengthening global support for state-of-the-art private sector models, approaches, and tools
2. advancing knowledge about the private sector provision of information, products, and services
3. strengthening key private health sector systems
4. initiating, implementing, and scaling up innovative, effective, and sustainable private health sector services and products.

MSI-US has field support funding commitments to work on SHOPS in Madagascar and Zimbabwe and is seeking additional resources for other countries.
