RAISE
Together with Columbia University, Marie Stopes International manages a five-year, multi-agency, multi-country programme which brings together 10 leading service delivery and advocacy organisations to scale-up comprehensive reproductive healthcare (RH) services in crisis settings.
The programme -- known as the Reproductive Health Access, Information and Services in Emergencies (RAISE) Initiative – seeks to bring about change at both the grassroots and global levels.
RAISE aims to ensure that comprehensive RH is considered a standard part of humanitarian strategies, including:
- emergency obstetric care
- comprehensive family planning
- prevention and treatment of STIs
- prevention of HIV/AIDS
- response to gender-based violence
RAISE supports service delivery projects in Colombia, Chad, Uganda, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It has also developed a new training centre at the Marie Stopes Kenya Eastleigh Obstetrics Centre in Nairobi, where the programme provides vital clinical training to ensure that services provided to refugees & IDPs are of the highest quality.
At Two Fronts: This is the story of reproductive health in emergencies In honour of World Health Day on April 7, 2010, the RAISE Initiative is proud to announce the release of At Two Fronts: This is the story of reproductive health in emergencies. This three-minute video offers glimpses into life as it is lived in situations of conflict and natural disaster, and shows why reproductive health care must be included in basic humanitarian response. We invite you to watch At Two Fronts and to share it with your colleagues, friends, and family members as part of your efforts to support this fundamental human right.
