Population & the environment

The world’s population is projected to reach 9.2 billion by 2050, up from nearly 6.7 billion today.

Worldwide, there is still a vast unmet need for contraception. Around 200 million women world wide who want to access contraception, can’t.

Fertility is highest in poorest countries and among the poorest people in those countries. Sexual and reproductive health services can’t meet existing needs, and demand is expected to increase rapidly in the next 20 years.

By increasing access to family planning, women are able to plan and space their pregnancies, which in turn influences population growth.
