Why give?

Each year, over 530,000 women die during pregnancy and child birth, most of these deaths are avoidable. Three million people die each year from AIDS. Almost all of these deaths occur in the developing world.

Maternal death and HIV perpetuate the cycle of poverty by taking the lives of breadwinners and care-givers within communities. Ensuring people know about and have access to sexual and reproductive health services can help break this cycle, by enabling people to pursue educational and economic opportunities; protect themselves from getting HIV and improve their own and their children’s health.

Marie Stopes International provides vital sexual and reproductive health services to some of the world's poorest people. Our work has transformed the lives of millions of women, protected the health of tens of millions more and is making an important contribution to the reduction of global poverty.

What makes Marie Stopes International different?

Your donation really does go straight to those who need it most:

In 2006, just over 95% of funds generated were spent directly on providing information and services in the developing world.

According to The World Health Organisation’s 2001 estimates, sexual and reproductive health problems account for 18% of the total global burden of disease, and 32% of the burden among women of reproductive age (aged 15-44) worldwide.
