Local vocals: singing storytellers spread the word in Mali

We're proud of the many channels we use to communicate family planning messages, but in Mali our team have gone one step further by saying it in song.

Marie Stopes International Mali have been using traditional West African singers and storytellers known as ‘griots’ to tell our story in places where your average family planning nurse doesn’t ever venture.

In West Africa, griots are seen as very important figures, who with their vast knowledge of their local community and historical events would traditionally have advised royalty.
