Kenyans in better health through social franchising

Marie Stopes Kenya recently completed a successful 3 year social franchising pilot project – AMUA - which had been established in 3 provinces in Kenya – Western, Rift Valley and Nyanza. By establishing the network of franchisees, all of whom have been trained to deliver high quality sexual and reproductive healthcare services, and by promoting it widely, the pilot project has improved the lives of thousands of Kenyan women dramatically increasing the take-up of long term and permanent contraceptive methods in the 3 provinces.
"Women in my village are nowadays able to plan and space their families depending on their choice because of Marie Stopes Kenya."
As well as benefiting clients, the network, which was funded by KfW, proved popular with franchisees eager to gain training in mid-level paramedical procedures and with local Ministry of Heath officials.
