Every minute of every day, 36 women somewhere in the world have an unsafe abortion. Every seven minutes a woman dies as a result. 

Marie Stopes International works to dramatically reduce the number of unsafe abortions globally by rapidly expanding access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services, including safe abortion and post abortion care.

Marie Stopes International does this by:

• expanding its clinic network so that family planning, abortion and post abortion care services are as widely available as possible
• pioneering the delivery of medical abortion through social marketing and rural outreach to help minimise the number of (largely rural) women who currently resort to unsafe methods because safe services are beyond their reach

By 2010, Marie Stopes International aims to provide 1 million safe abortions each year.
