Highlights

  •  won the contract to provide services on behalf of the Ministry of Health
  • opened 6 new clinics in 2007
  • launched a nationwide call centre to support all 21 clinics
  • won a large grant from the European Community to integrate VCT (voluntary counselling & testing) across all clinics
  • increased the number of abortions performed by over 25% in the past year

Future plans

  • open a further 9 new clinics over next 12 months in areas of high unmet need - including new ones in the Limpopo and Kwazulu Natal Provinces as well as the programme’s first clinic in the North West Province. This will give Marie Stopes South Africa a nationwide presence
  • introduce sterilisation services in Gauteng Province – both in clinics and via outreach
