Timothy M Rutter FRCS (Chairman)
Before becoming our Chairman, Mr Rutter practised as an obstetrician and gynaecologist at the highest level for over 25 years. He brings expertise in programme design and management, and has worked as our Senior Gynaecological Consultant responsible for project development of clinic based programmes in developing countries.
Mr Rutter has in-depth knowledge of the international context, having occupied senior medical positions with the Government of Thailand, the Canadian Government and Christian Aid. He was appointed Executive Director at the Transnational Birth Control Programme in 1973.
In addition to his professional work, Mr Rutter has undertaken post-graduate specialisations in Gynaecology & Obstetrics at St George’s Hospital Medical School and as Gynaecology & Obstetrics Senior House Officer at Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Hospital. He has also held lectureships at four leading research institutions, notably Universidad de Cadiz and Universidad Autonamia de Barcelona.
Getachew Bekele
Getachew has worked for Marie Stopes International for over 19 years. He plays a key role in national and global advocacy on issues related to family planning and sexual and reproductive health and was the founding member and chairman of the Consortium of Reproductive health Associations in Ethiopia (CORHA). He also serves on the board of the AIDS Prevention and Support Organisation (ISAPSO) and the Mothers and Children Multisectoral Development Organisation (MSMDO).
Dr Tim Black CBE MBBS MRCP DTM&H MPH
Dr Black has specialised in international family planning for 35 years. Dr Black served as chief executive of Marie Stopes International, based in London, for 35 years, stepping down in 2006. He is now a consultant and advisor worldwide to reproductive health and social marketing programmes.
The Baroness Flather JP DL FRSA of Windsor and Maidenhead
Baroness Flather was elevated to the House of Lords in 1990. During her time in the House of Lords she has sat on a range of committees addressing issues from racial equality, social affairs, and the education of children from minority groups. The Baroness was awarded The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman (Overseas Indian Award) in 2009 by the President of India.
Philip D Harvey
Philip Harvey is the president of DKT International which he founded in 1989. He was co-founder (with Dr Black) of Population Services International. Mr Harvey has been championing the benefits of social marketing for over three decades. Earlier he served as deputy director of CARE's program in India.
Virgilio Pernito
Virgilio Pernito heads our partner entity, Population Services Pilipinas Incorporated, in the Philippines. His venture in the field of sexual and reproductive health comes after managing a nutritional marketing project for Helen Keller International. Prior to social development, Virgilio led the turnaround of a profit centre with the Philippine National Bank as well as working on global advertising accounts with McCann Erickson Worldwide. He is now based in Manila and previously lived in the USA where he gained his MBA at the University of Michigan.
Dr Kristin Anne Rutter, MB, MChir, MA (Cantab), MBA
Dr Rutter practised as a doctor in Iceland before joining McKinsey and Company in 2001 where she now works as Senior Engagement Manager focusing on healthcare and strategy. Dr Rutter gained her MBA from Harvard Business School and trained as a medical doctor at the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine.
